Polish firefighters are in, Sveg, central Sweden, where they are helping to fight forest fires. They came by ferry from Świnoujście to Malmö. Along the way to Sveg, they were greeted by Swedish firefighters.

A wildfire killed at least 74 people and injured scores more as it swept through a small resort town near Athens and trapped families with children behind walls of smoke and flames as they tried to flee to the beach. During the evacution, a rescue boat drowned with 10 people on board. Two of the victims were Polish citizens.

The Senate Legislation Committee did not recommend on Tuesday for the upper house to approve the President's resolution to hold a national referendum regarding changes to the Constitution.

The Senate committee recommended to whole parliament on Monday to adopt in full the legislation amending laws on the Supreme Court, courts organization, the National Council of the Judiciary and the prosecution. Civic Platform senators demand the rejection of the legislation.

On Friday, there was a tragic accident on the road between Wschowa and Radomyśl in Greater Poland. At about 9:30 p.m. a Land Rover hit two teenage girls riding their bikes home. One of the girls died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

"Judges do not command an army; a judge will always fall against power; I will be the First Supreme Court President in exile," said Małgorzata Gersdorf on Friday in Germany.

Law and Justice representative, Marcin Horała has been named the head of the investigative committee reviewing VAT embezzlement. One of his tasks will be to look into how the issue was handled during the coalition of Civic Platform and Polish People's Party which ended in 2015, when Law and Justice took power. Civic Platform feels there are strong grounds to extend the period to include the current government's time in power. Voices and emotions were raised during the debate ahead of the vote.

Eight people have been admitted to the hospital in Wałcz, in the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship. They are believed to have been poisoned by designer drugs and two of them are in serious condition. Some of the affected were brought by ambulance, while some of them came to the hospital themselves. The local police and prosuector are looking into the case.

According to legal experts and judges, the new law on the Supreme Court violates the constitution. In TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach", the Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar talked about the negotiations between the European Commission and the Polish government regarding all the previous laws adopted by the Sejm.

The Polish parliament adopted rules on Friday to expedite the naming of a new Supreme Court chief under a judicial overhaul by the ruling party that critics say undercuts democracy.

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar was silenced when he criticised the impartiality of the Constitutional Tribunal and judge Julia Przyłębska. During a session of the parliamentary Justice and Human Rights Committee, chairman Stanisław Piotrowicz lashed out and accused the commissioner of not defending citizens and acting with a political agenda. The session was quickly brought to a close and Bodnar was not allowed to respond.

In front of the Sejm there were protests. And at the entrance to the parliament, the Marshal's Guard as well as the Border Patrol were searching cars. Three former representatives of Modern Party were denied entrance and they won't be allowed in until the current Sejm's session is over. The order was issued by the Speaker of the Sejm, Marek Kuchciński. He is worried that someone may try to smuggle, in the trunks of their cars, members of the "Citizens of the Republic of Poland" organization.

President of the German Federal Court of Justice, Bettina Limperg said that the First President of the Polish Supreme Court, Małgorzata Gersdorf had been illegally removed from the office, German Press Agency (DPA) infromed on Friday.

On Thursday, the fire department recorded nearly 1.600 storm-related interventions, mainly in Lesser Poland, Mazovia, Łódzkie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeships, informed the spokesperson of State Fire Service, Paweł Frątczak. One scout campsite has been evacuated.

"On Friday I will submit in the Senate a draft resolution on holding a nationwide referendum on 10-11 November, regarding changes to the Constitution," President Andrzej Duda announced today.

Polish parliament passed a bill on Friday introducing changes to the voting system in the elections to the European Parliament. The changes include a provision that each constituency will have at least three candidates for MEPs assigned to it.

"According to the constitutional law, there can be no doubt that Professor Gersdorf holds an office from which she cannot be recalled," said the former President of the Constitutional Tribunal, Professor Andrzej Rzepliński in TVN24 "Tak jest".

During the protest, a group of people attempted to prevent MP Kornel Morawiecki, a father of PM Mateusz Morawiecki, from entering the parliament. This behaviour was condemned by the leader of Citizens of Poland, Paweł Kasprzak.

"According to the law, Małgorzata Gersdorf isn't the Supreme Court's President anymore. Therefore, as any serious state should be able to handle such situation in a legal way, we propose a new legislation which is meant to end the impasse," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Thursday, relating to a draft amendment to the Supreme Court law.

Małgorzata Gersdorf, who the Polish government says is now retired but who insists her term as the Supreme Court head runs until 2020, walked into the court on Wednesday saying the situation was "very tense and dramatic".
