They did it again! Poland is volleyball world champion for the second time in a row!

Well they did it! Back-to-back World Championship titles for the Polish volleyball team. After beating the United States in the semifinals, the white-and-reds made very short work on the Brazilians, winning the final in the straight sets. The President has joined the hordes of those praising the players, saying that they may receive a national medal for their accomplishment.

CJEU ruling not required? ZUS withdrew its complaint to the Supreme Court

The Polish Social Insurance Institute (ZUS) is withdrawing its appeal to the Supreme Court. Now the question is whether the Supreme Court will withdraw its questions to the European Court of Justice, for a preliminary ruling on reforms to the judicial system. That scenario is highly likely, acoording to the spokesman for the Supreme Court. While this is favourable for Law and Justice, the battle is not over, as the European Commission is suing Poland for an injunction in those reforms to the court.

Another Polish judge sends questions to CJEU regarding judiciary reform

Another Polish judge has sent a question to the European Court of Justice, regarding the judicial reforms. This time it was adjudicating panel from Gorzów Wielkopolski. Such questions were already sent multiple times from different places in the country, in order to slow down the reforms and align them with the EU law.

Professor Piotr Szopiński awarded for outstanding contribution in the field of vascular surgery

Once again a Polish doctor was singled out for his brilliant work. Professor and doctor Piotr Szopiński, from the Institute of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in Warsaw was among the winners at the Gala for the "Ambasadorowie Kongresów Polskich" organisation. The prize has been given out since 1998 and promotes Poland as a destination for the organisation of international conferences and congresses. The event took place at Poznań's International Fairgrounds.

Morawiecki reassured that Poland won't change its stance on immigrants

During the informal EU summit in Salzburg, Poland reaffirmed its stance on immigration that accepting immigrants can only be a result of free will and it is a question of security and the protection of borders. After his return, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told journalists that at the summit, they confirmed what was agreed upon in June in terms of migration.

People pretending to be sick line up in queues, but the issue is more than serious. The Medical University of Silesia is looking for "patients" to teach students and paramedics to cope with real-life problems. That requires more than medical knowledge from textbooks.

Leader of dangerous gang and of Wisła Kraków hooligans detained in Italy

The leader of Wisła Kraków football hooligans has been arrested in Italy. Paweł M. a.k.a. Misiek had been wanted since May for being the leader of an organized crime gang dealing with narcotics, beatings and other attacks. He is in detention in Italy and now awaits the decision of the court for his extradition back to Poland.

Court: police searches in KOD activists' homes were legal, but unjustified

They were legal, but unjustified. The court has ruled concerning police searches of the houses of activists from the Committee for the Defense of Democracy (KOD). The activists claim the police used heavy-handed tactics to scare them. This was after the wave of civil protesters who dressed monuments in T-shirts or banners with the word "Constitution" written on them. The police claim that they entered the homes because they were searching for evidence.

CJEU: Polish Supreme Court's case will be processed in expedited procedure

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has decided that the request for preliminary ruling, sent by the Polish Supreme Court in early August, will be processed in an expedited procedure. The CJEU President stated in the substantiation that "a prompt reply by the CJEU may dispel serious concerns (...) especially those concerning independence of judges". The CJEU has scheduled to process a request by the Polish Supreme Court for preliminary ruling on 12th of February 2019.

Sejm of Children and Youth 2018 - the 24th session was held unusally in the fall

Children's day in the Sejm, in September - more than three years late. The 24th session of the Sejm of Children and Youth has been held, for the first time ever in the fall. It was delayed due to the protest of disabled people and their guardians. Some of the young representatives are disappointed that they were not able to debate that issue.

PM Morawiecki issued a corrective statement after court's order

The corrective statement everyone was waiting for has been made. The prime minister has rectified what he had said about how the government of Civic Platform and Polish People's Party spending the same amount of money on local roads in 8 years as Law and Justice in just 12-18 months. The Court of Appeals in Warsaw, in a legally binding verdict, decided that Mateusz Morawiecki's statement was false.

45 alleged Ożarów gang members arrested in a large-scale police operation

Central Bureau of Police Investigations' officers have detained 26 people in Warsaw and its environs, who are believed to be members of the Ożarów gang, known for its high-skill drug trade. It is estimated that its members distributed almost 270 kilograms of narcotics, worth almost 13 million zlotys. In total, 45 people are suspects and the police have not ruled out more arrests.
