Agriculture minister: Russia is using grain as ammunition

Russia is using grain as ammunition, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said on Tuesday (July 18) after the collapse of a U.N.-brokered deal that allowed Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea. According to Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Russia's decision to quit the deal "cannot lead to the destabilisation of Polish agricultural markets".

NBP: core inflation in June down to 11.1% y/y compared to May

Core inflation in June 2023 dropped down to 11.1% year on year from 11.5% the previous month - the National Bank of Poland announced on Monday (July 17). In a month to month comparison, core inflation in June decreased from 0.4% in May to 0.3% in June. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the same period stood at 11.5% y/y.

Russia shuts Polish consulate in Smolensk. MFA responds

Russia said on Friday it will shut a Polish diplomatic mission looking after memorials to Polish officers massacred by the Soviets and a 2010 air crash that killed Poland's president, in retaliation for Warsaw's "aggressive line" towards Moscow. Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Poland would respond "in kind," while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Russia's decision "another hostile and incomprehensible act".

President Duda after National Security Council session: I was not disappointed

Poland's National Security Council held a meeting on Thursday called by President Andrzej Duda the day before. After the session, the president said the decisions taken at the NATO summit in Vilnius had been "relayed in detail across the whole spectrum of our political scene". He also thanked the participants for raising "important questions" and "constructive attitude".

Metro carriages from Warsaw are reaching Kyiv

Warsaw's old series-81 metro carriages are gradually reaching Kyiv. The two cities agreed in March a total of 60 cars would be transferred from the Polish capital city to that of Ukraine. A video showing the unloading of the vehicles in Kyiv has been posted on social media.

Poland to buy more South Korean weapons, presidents agree

The minister explained the sword would be included in the collection of a museum Rydzyk is planning to open this year. The reporter remarked the museum would be opened only after the parliamentary election, to which Sasin replied: "But would like to open a museum with empty walls?".

President Duda: we want NATO pipelines to reach further east

Polish president Andrzej Duda arrived in Vilnius on Monday (July 10) ahead of a two-day NATO summit on July 11-12. Before leaving for Lithuania, the president had said Poland wanted NATO to discuss extending its Cold War-era oil pipeline system further east. Presidential aide: there are some decisions on conditions for Ukraine's NATO accession

"What's crucial for us is further strengthening of the NATO eastern flank, further adaption of NATO to current challenges and continuation of defence and deterrence of Russia," Polish president's aide Marcin Przydacz said on Friday (July 7), after the talks with the U.S. national security advisor to President Joe Biden - Jake Sullivan. According to Przydacz, some decisions regarding the conditions for Ukraine's NATO accession have been already made.
