Eleven hooligans detained. Three already heard charges

The police have already detained eleven Lech Poznań hooligans who invaded the pitch and disrupted the game on Sunday. Three men are being questioned, other three already heard charges and the rest should follow soon. One of the detained was banned from entering stadiums. The police still determines the identities of others involved in the incident.

Man dies in an accident in Tatra mountains

Warsaw tenants granted compensation by the reprivatisation committee

Compensation for the victims of the so-called wild reprivatisation. Will the city authorities pay the money to the tenants of four tenement houses in Warsaw? They should according to the decision made by the reprivatisation committee chaired by Law and Justice's candidate for mayor of Warsaw, Patryk Jaki. Among the tenants is the daughter of Jolanta Brzeska, a social activists who fought for tenements' rights and had been found dead in 2011.

No punishment for ecologists from Białowieża Forest

There will be no punishment for ecologists and other activists who were protesting last year against the logging of the Białowieża Forest. The minister of environment said that all lawsuits against the protesters will be withdrawn. Instead, the ministry will invite the ecologists to work together in a new Białowieża expert group. As for now, however, the activists refused the offer as they don’t want to work in a same team with the people who recommended the logging in the first place.

World Cup: Germany, Spain and Brazil top favourites to win according to Swiss bank

Swiss banking giant, UBS predicts that the World Cup holders, Germany stand the highest chance to win this year's tournament in Russia. According to the carried out simulation, German team has 24 percent to succeed. Right behind them are Brazil and Spain with 19.8 percent chances for the former and 16.1 percent for the latter. According to UBS, Panama, Egypt, Tunisia, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia have literally zero chances to hold up the Jules Rimet trophy in July.

Fuel prices go up in Poland

Fuel prices in Poland went. Currently, a litre of gasoline costs around 5 zloty or more. This is a result of an increase in oil prices on international markets.

Polish team prepares for the World Cup

Adam Nawałka, coach of the Polish national team has narrowed his selection for the World Cup to 32 players. The final fight for tickets to Russia will happen in the seaside town of Jurata and later in southern town of Arłamów where the last two preparation camps are scheduled to take place. The final squad will be annouced on 4 June and the chosen 23 players will represent Poland in the tournament. In their first game, Poland will face Senegal on Tuesday 19 June in Moscow. Apart from the African team, Poland will play against Columbia and Japan.

Airbus Helicopters takes Poland to court

Airbus Helicopters is sueing Poland after Beata Szydło's had cabinet terminated the contract to buy 15 Caracal helicopters for the Polish Army. The case has been withdrawn from the Court of Arbitration and now the French company will take it to the Polish court.

Expectations ran high before the visit of the former Polish president to the protesting parents of the disabled in the Sejm. While the most difficult questions remain unanswered, Lech Wałęsa declared that he would mobilize various groups in the society to support the plight of the protesters.

The city's mayor, Jacek Jaśkowiak thinks that the brawls that ensued on Sunday's matchup between the archrivals, Lech Poznań and Legia Warszawa is the result of lack of consistency on the part of the government.

In Gdańsk, a meeting with residents was cut short. After an outburst and heated discussion, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki left the room at the legendary Gdańsk Shipyard. The government's spokesperson is saying the whole thing was planned by the opposition. But the most difficult questions, mostly about the protest of the disabled in the Sejm, are being asked throughout the country.

Former police chief wants to file a complaint against the CBA

He says he's no criminal and will file a complaint on the actions of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, the CBA. The former chief of police claimed on TVN24's "Jeden na Jeden" that a representative of the bureau offered to drop charges in return for testimony against a certain minister from the Civic Platform - Polish People's Party coalition. Zbigniew Maj has been charged with 10 offenses, among others, for disclosing information in criminal proceedings.

"Members of the ruling United Right can only be in power as long as they keep the society divided," said the former president, Lech Wałęsa in "Fakty po Faktach". He also emphasised that a developed society must find a way to take care of the disabled. He added that it's possible that he'll return to the Sejm and join the protesters. Former prime minister, Ewa Kopacz was the guest of the second part of the programme.

"Cold War" highly praised in Cannes

Paweł Pawlikowski has been awarded Best Director in Cannes for his movie "Cold War". He dedicated the movie to the co-writer Janusz Głowacki who passed away in August. The story is loosely based on the lives of Pawlikowski's parents. Set in the 1950s, the movie tells a story of a sophisticated love that happens in the early years of the eponymous Cold War era. The movie stars Tomasz Kot, Agata Kulesza, Joanna Kulig and Borys Szyc.

Legia Warszawa won the Polish championship for the 13th time in the club's history on Sunday after they were granted a 3-0 walkover against Lech Poznan whose supporters threw flares and invaded the pitch.

Paweł Pawlikowski awarded Best Director in Cannes

There was no Palme d'Or for Polish cinema in Cannes, however, Pawel Pawlikowski did bring home Best Director. The award was for his movie "Cold War", set in the 1950s and 60s and telling the story of tough love between two people from different worlds. Pawlikowski received the award from the head of the jury, Cate Blanchett. He dedicated it to Janusz Głowacki who wrote the screenplay with him but died in August last year.

Sejm Speaker's Guard will have more authority

New laws regarding the Sejm Speaker's Guard entered into force. The number of guards is to be increased as well as their authority and jurisdiction. Members of the Speaker's Guard will now be allowed to give orders to people whose behaviour might pose a danger.

PiS opponents disrupted meeting with PM Morawiecki in Gdańsk

Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with residents of Gdańsk on Sunday. During a Q and A session in the famed Occupational Health and Safety Room in the Gdańsk Shipyard, a group of Law and Justice opponents disrupted the meeting. The atmosphere was so tense that the police had to intervene.

The protest too expensive for the government?

An epidemiological danger and, not to mention, the cost of food. For these reasons, among others, the protest of the disabled and their caretakers in the Sejm is a problem for the government. The authorities simply want it to end. However, they don't want to fulfill the demand of a 500 zloty allowance.

Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for Marcin Gortat

Marcin Gortat of the Washington Wizards has been awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He received it from president Andrzej Duda for "exceptional sports achievements and promotion of sports among children and teenagers, as well as promoting Poland and for charity work." The ceremony took place during the president's meeting with Polonia in Chicago.

First Veteran Run in Bolesławiec

The First Veteran Run took place in Bolesławiec in Lower Silesia. The beautiful race was organized in memory of Lieutenant Łukasz Kurowski, the first Polish soldier to lose his life in Afghanistan. The goal of the event was to honour all of the Polish soldiers on missions abroad.

"Bobot" - a friend indeed

He is a real guardian, friend and medic, though he doesn't have a real heart. Bobot, because this is how he's called, is a robot. This electronic medical assistant's future task will be to help doctors and nurses. He was created by students of the Białystok University of Technology. The machine can measure a pulse and examine the heart rate of child patients. His inventors were awarded for their work with a gold medal at the International Invention Exhibition in Paris.

The Gift of Youth set sail from Gdynia

"Dar Młodzieży" (The Gift of the Youth) set out on its voyage from the port in Gdynia. The sailing ship will journey around the world in honor of Polish independence. It will dock at 22 ports on 4 continents, stopping in Panama in January for World Youth Day.
