Flash estimate: inflation in September at 17.2% year on year

Inflation in September this year rose at a 17.2% annual pace, according to a flash estimate released on Friday (September 30) by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (Statistics Poland). The barrier of 17% has been crossed for the first time since February, 1997. Experts projected consumer prices to increase by 16.5% year on year.

EU Commission deducts another tranche from Poland's funds

The European Commission has deducted another - sixth - tranche from funds earmarked for Poland. This is yet another financial penalty for the country's non-compliance with the ruling issued by EU's highest court, which ordered Warsaw to immediately suspend law provisions regulating the functioning of the contested Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court. This time, the Commission deducted 33 million euro, which is approximately 157 million zlotys.

Declaration and campaign to conserve 8,000 shoes of the youngest Auschwitz victims

A declaration to finance the conservation of some 8,000 children's shoes in the Memorial Collections has been signed by the Auschwitz Museum, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation and the International March of the Living. The information about Mr Mosberg's passing was announced on social media by Poland's Consul General in New York Adrian Kubicki. "Mr. Edward Mosberg passed away tonight, the most wonderful man I have ever met. He was a Holocaust Survivor, noble man and a great Polish patriot, full of energy to the very end of his 96 years of life. My personal mentor. Irreplaceable. Please pray for him and his family" - Kubicki wrote on Twitter.

President Duda hails Biden's UN address and his "tough, yet composed line" on Russia

In an interview for "Fakty" TVN reporter Marcin Wrona, President Andrzej Duda spoke about U.S. President Joe Biden's United Nations address and his country's policy on the war in Ukraine. Biden accused Russia on Wednesday of making "reckless" and "irresponsible" threats to use nuclear weapons and said Moscow had violated the core tenets of United Nations membership by invading Ukraine. According to Duda, Biden maintained a "very tough, decisive, yet very composed line" in that regard. Polish president also commented on the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons.

President Duda at UN General Assembly: Russian aggressors must lose this war

Defence minister signs deal to buy 48 FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak signed a deal on Friday (September 16) to purchase 48 South Korean FA-50 fighter jets for Polish Armed Forces. "New perspectives are opening before Polish Armed Forces; it's a generational leap," Błaszczak said. The FA-50 is a light combat aircraft developed by Korea Aerospace Industries with Lockheed Martin.
