"The Congress of the United States has approved $288.6 Million in Foreign Military Financing for Poland" - U.S. Embassy in Poland announced on Thursday (September 29). According to a statement published on the embassy's website, "Poland has delivered extraordinary support to Ukraine in the face of Russia’s further invasion. These funds will speed the backfill of capabilities Poland has been able to provide from its own stocks to add to Ukraine’s defense, including main battle Tanks".
United States Embassy released a statement on Thursday in which it announced the latest decision of U.S. Congress regarding Poland.
"The Congress of the United States has approved $288.6 Million in Foreign Military Financing for Poland. This funding, announced by Secretary Blinken in Kyiv September 8 and making Poland one of the largest recipients of Foreign Military Assistance outside of Ukraine, is intended to build the capacity of Poland to deter and defend against the increased threat from Russia," we read in the statement.
"Poland has delivered extraordinary support to Ukraine in the face of Russia’s further invasion. These funds will speed the backfill of capabilities Poland has been able to provide from its own stocks to add to Ukraine’s defense, including main battle Tanks. We continue to encourage countries to donate urgently needed capabilities to Ukraine, as well as to begin contracting defense companies to get a jump start on producing further capabilities for Ukraine as soon as possible," U.S. Embassy added.
"This financing is part of a comprehensive package, announced on September 8, of Foreign Military Financing to bolster the security of Ukraine and 17of its neighbors, including Poland, which are potentially at risk of future Russian aggression," the authors said.
Brzezinski: Poland set an example to follow for the entire world
U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said in a tweet that "since the start of the war, with all its might, Poland has been supporting Ukraine in military and humanitarian terms".
"It (Poland) is an example to follow for the whole world. I'm glad the Congress has approved 288.6 million dollars in Foreign Military Financing," he added and shared the link to the embassy's statement.
Rau: this decision responds to the need to strengthen NATO eastern flank
Poland's Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau was asked during his visit to Washington about the Congress' decision.
"This decision responds to the need we've been constantly raising - strengthening of the eastern flank of NATO. Indeed, we stand convinced that deterrence is the essence of war prevention and maintainting peace," he said.
Błaszczak: good news!
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak also shared a link to the U.S. embassy statement and added a brief comment: "Good news! We shall spend the additional funds on further strengthening of Poland's security".
