PKN Orlen Press Office informed that a furnace went ablaze in one of the installations at the company's production facilities in Płock.
"Two employees, who were nearest to the furnace that went on fire, have died. Their bodies were found right after the flames had been extinguished," said TVN24 reporter Piotr Borowski. Later he reported that firefighters were securing the area and the police and prosecutor arrived at the scene.
Orlen said in a statement that factory firefighters and other services had immediately launched a rescue mission and extinguished the fire in approx. 30 minutes.
The company's press office also confirmed the death of two employees. " Their families have been offered psychological assistance".
PKN Orlen chairman called up a special commission tasked with determining the cause of the tragic accident, the statement said.
Płock prosecutor Iwona Śmigielska-Kowalska confirmed to TVN24 reporter that an investigation into the accident and the death of two people had been launched.
