EU27 and UK agree to Brexit extension until October 31

European Union leaders announced on Thursday they gave Theresa May a new Brexit deadline of October 31, four months longer than the prime minister asked for, in a move the EU summit chair said would let Britain resolve its domestic deadlock on the issue.

Teachers: we will take part in the round table but PM only adds fuel to fire

According the head of the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) Sławomir Broniarz, the prime minister doesn't care about ending the conflict and belittles the whole situation. He also said that PM Morawiecki is "escaping forward" by proposing the round table talks to be held after the Easter. Despite that, the ZNP chief declared readiness to partake in the talks.

Poland commemorated the ninth anniversary of Smolensk crash

"We need to build the strength of the state, to rebuild it in many aspects. Not only moral, but also material arguments constitute the strength that we need. Only when combined, these two arguments can give us this strength," said the chairman of the ruling Law and Justice party, Jarosław Kaczyński during the commemorations of the ninth anniversary of the Smolensk crash.

"A waste of time". Teachers reject another offer from government

On Tuesday afternoon another round of talks between the teachers and the government came to an end. "Unfortunately, the unions rejected the government's offer," said deputy PM Beata Szydło. "We were absolutely sure that the offer would at least correspond with our demands," said the chief of the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP), Sławomir Broniarz. "The meeting was a waste of time," added Sławomir Wittkowicz, the head of the "Solidarność-Oświata" Free Trade Union.

A would-be thief got stuck in a ventilation shaft. A fire brigade rescued him

They had to save him before they could arrest him. The fire department first helped to get the would-be thief out of a ventilation shaft in an apartment building, then the police took him into custody. The man can't enjoy being freed from the tight situation for too long though, because the penalty for breaking and entering could be up to ten years in prison.

On Monday, after 6 p.m. the taxi drivers ended their protest in front of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology. The protest was suspended until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 9th of April, when the government is expected to announce its position regarding the demands of taxi drivers.

A llama on the lam in a town in southern Poland

A llama is on the loose in Bieruń, Silesia. The animal ran away from a private breeder and was spotted many times over the last month on streets and fields near the city. Officials are assuring the public that the animal does not pose a threat. The owner has been fined 250 zlotys for allowing his llama to go on the lam.

Frans Timmermans commented on Polish judiciary during his visit to Warsaw

Polish judges face disciplinary charges for asking the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for opinion, which is the fundamental right of every judge in the EU. It's unacceptable for any government to interfere with this right, said Frans Timmermans. The Vice President of the European Commission visited Warsaw on Sunday, where he met, among others, with the leader of Wiosna (Spring) party, Robert Biedroń.
