Presidents Duda and Trump spoke at NATO summit in Brussels

Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke with his American counterpart Donald Trump at a NATO summit in Brussels on Wednesday, informed Chief of the President's Chancellery Krzysztof Szczerski. The head of states discussed strenghtening Polish-American military cooperation in the scope of equipment as well as cooperation between army units, added presidential aide Mr Szczerski.

The police demand higher pay and pensions. They stopped writing tickets in protest

The police are demanding higher salaries and a better pension plan. For now, they're not giving tickets for petty offences. Instead, they're giving out warnings and telling the Polish people about their situation. They claim, it's extremely difficult. The pay is low, the future bleak and there's less and less people willing to join the force. Something has to change, they say, or else they will have to take other measures.

77th anniversary of Jedwabne pogrom

Tuesday marked the 77th anniversary of Jedwabne pogrom in which the Jewish community of the town had been murdered by their Polish neighbours. According to the Polish Institute of National Remebrance's findings, the 1941 massacre was carried out by Poles but instigated by the Germans. The anniversary ceremony took place in front of the Jedwabne pogrom memorial. There have been prayers in the name of the victims and wreaths have been laid.

May, Merkel and Morawiecki hope for friendly relationship after Brexit

Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki also said Poland "opts for a friendly relationship" with Britain after Brexit, adding that a "disorderly break-up" would be harmful for both the EU and Britain. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said "even after Great Britain leaves we want to have a close relationship". British PM Theresa May said "we'll be talking positively about how we can continue to work together in our special relationship for wider good."

Search for a six-meter-long python in Warsaw's suburbs

If you're afraid of snakes, you aren't going to like this story. The shed skin of an almost six-meter-long python was found by the river in the Piaseczno suburbs of Warsaw. The snake could be hungry, dangerous and a serious hazard to people and animals. The authorities are combing the area and calling on locals to be particularly cautious. The residents are certainly worried.

Territorial Defence Forces practice frightened residents of Mięćmierz

Residents of Mięćmierz in the Lubelskie Voivodeship spent a Saturday riveted in fear as bullets whizzed by their homes. Despite the fact that the Territorial Defence Force used blanks during training exercises, residents weren't informed that this would be happening. Supposedly, the police and local authorities had been warned, but the information wasn't passed on.

Polish and Ukrainian presidents to meet at NATO summit in Brussels

President Andrzej Duda will meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Petro Poroshenko during the NATO summit commencing on Wednesday; the meeting has been scheduled after Ukrainian side's proposal, the Chief of the Cabinet of the President, Krzyszof Szczerski told Polish Press Agency (PAP) on Monday.

Mick Jagger received a standing ovation from the audience at Sunday's concert in Warsaw. The lead singer of the Rolling Stones said Poland had a lot to be proud of, but that Poles shouldn't forget the lessons they had learned. Before the concert, former Polish president, Lech Wałęsa asked Mick Jagger to support The British legends first visited Poland over 50 years ago.

Environment Minister Kowalczyk explains "over-sensitivity towards animals" comment

The Minister of the Environment has explained his controversial statement made about hunting protected species in Poland. A few days ago, during a campaign meeting with voters in the city of Mława, Henryk Kowalczyk said "we are living in times of over-sensitivity in the protection of animals". In addition, he assured that the protected status for animals would not be lifted in order to avoid conflict with the EU. He explained that it is better to take small steps, but decisive ones. That means, to grant permission for every application concerning the reduction of protected species. Now, he claims that such licenses are only issued in drastic situations.

Sejm in favour of forming VAT fraud investigation committee

MPs have summoned a commission to investigate VAT fraud. It will deal only with the years when the Civic Platform - Polish People's Party coalition was in power. The commission will be comprised of 9 people and 390 MPs voted in favour of forming it. The opposition battled to the end, however without results, to broaden the scope of the investigative body to also include the years of the previous and current terms of Law and Justice. The most prominent witnesses to testify include former minister of finance Jacek Rostowski and, possibly, former prime minister Donald Tusk.

Adam Bodnar gave a speech to young people at Open'er festival

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar gave a speech at a meeting at the Open'er festival in Gdańsk. He spoke to young people there about the Constitutional Tribunal, the Supreme Court, the new controversial copyright law dubbed ACTA 2, hate speech on the internet and surveillance by secret services. The title of the speech was "We the citizens! Our freedoms and rights" and he also gave his personal opinions on changes to the Supreme Court.

Professor Łętowska: we have a war of law interpretations

A retired judge from the Constitutional Tribunal has commented on the war of interpretation of the law. At the Polish Bar Council Gala, Professor Ewa Łętowska spoke about the current process of the creation of law in Poland. In her opinion, during this process, there are infringements the effects of which are unclear and disorienting laws.

Investigation into Polish Air Force MiG-29 crash

Days after the MIG-29 plane crash that killed a pilot of the Polish Air Force, it is still not clear what caused the accident. Especially, since the pilot managed to eject and was in one of the world's best ejection seats. The State Commission on Aircraft Accidents Investigation will now look into it and and the minister of defense has grounded all MIG-29's in the Polish Air Force until the cause of the crash is determined.

The opposition is uniting behind candidates in other cities too, while Law and Justice is drawing a clear line between local politics and business.

"From Poland with Love". That was the message of the American ambassador during a Polish-American picnic in the park. The U.S. Embassy and the American Center in Warsaw chose this way to celebrate the centenary of Polish-American relations. It was held in true American style. There was American food, music, sports and even the U.S. Marines. One of the main attractions was a huge cake with an American flag. During the official part of the ceremony, the American ambassador to Poland, Paul Jones, spoke to those in attendance.

President Duda: Polish-Ukrainian relations must be founded on historical truth

President Andrzej Duda attended the ceremony marking the anniversary of the Volhynia Massacre in 1943. He travelled to Ukraine on Sunday to pay respect to murdered Poles. Ukraine's president, Petro Poroshenko was also there, but he dedicated his visit to the victims of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict in 1943 to 1944. The two presidents were not expected to meet each other.
