“This is a great day for Poland and for all of Europe, when the Polish-American alliance has been strengthened as never before in the last 200 years,” the Minister of National Defense Antoni Macierewicz said on Thursday, after the U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to Poland.

“This is a special day for Poland and for all of Europe, a beautiful day, a wonderful day, a day in which the Polish-American alliance has been strengthened like never before in the last 200 years,” said the Minister of National Defense, opening a Polish-American picnic on the commons of the National Stadium.

In the Minister's opinion, “Poland was presented by President Trump as the rampart of European civilization, as the defender of the deepest, most precious and significant values of our civilization for contemporary Europe and the world.”

“I have heard many speeches in my life, and I have delivered many myself, but such a speech, in honor of Western civilization, Christian civilization, in honor of the heart and soul of Europe, as Poland has been portrayed in President Trump's speech – I have never heard,” said Antoni Macierewicz.

According to the Minister of National Defense, the day of July 6 and the visit of the President of the United States to Poland are of historic significance. “It was worth waiting for decades; it was worth for Poland to wait under the Nazi and Soviet yoke; it was worth all the sacrifices, paying a terrible price, to live to this day when not only the allied and American troops are stationed on Polish soil, but the great civilizational, political and geopolitical dream of Poland has been fulfilled, as the alliance between states from the Oder to the Caucasus, from the Baltic to the Black Sea and the Adriatic – not only has become reality in Warsaw, but has gained the support of the American ally,” said the Minister.

The Minister of National Defense said that President Trump's speech demonstrated that the United States was “ready to support this alliance, to be part of a great European alliance, which gives Europe a real chance to unite.” “This is a great day for the Polish nation, which sacrificed so much in order to re-emerge as the heart and soul of Europe,” he added.

"We want God"

Referring to words spoken on the Krasiński Square by President Trump, who said: “Poles, Americans, Europeans continue to cry out loud: +we want God+”, the Minister of National Defense said that such words were not heard in public for decades, but were repeated in prayers in homes and churches.

“+We want God+ – these words spoken by President Trump reflect the very essence of Christian civilization, Western civilization. This is the civilization we will defend together. It is this civilization that Americans soldiers and the soldiers of the North Atlantic Treaty are guarding here,” said the Minister.

The Minister of National Defense emphasized that President Trump's visit “was not only about great speeches and declarations, but also about great commitments” in the spheres of culture and the economy, among others.

"We cannot be sent to the corner"

The Minister pointed out that commitments of “extreme importance for our enterprises, our defense industry – American and Polish, and our army” were made, concerning the acquisition of the Patriot air defense system and the HIMARS missiles for the Polish rocket artillery. “All this will strengthen the Polish army,” he said.

Speaking about the attractions of the picnic, Antoni Macierewicz pointed out that “next to excellent vehicles, tracked howitzers, state-of-the-art tanks and mortars, one can see the most effective weapon of all time in Europe: the Polish hussars, who dominated the battlefields of Europe for 200 years.” “For 200 years, Polish hussars made our borders secure,” said Macierewicz, and added: ”what we were able to do then, we can do now with our American ally.”

“We cannot be sent to the corner. Poland is in the heart of Europe, Poland with the United States and the Three Seas countries can renew the spirit of Europe and give it strength,” said the Minister of National Defense.
