Civic Platform chairman Schetyna won't be running for re-election

The chairman of Poland's biggest opposition party - Civic Platform's (PO) Grzegorz Schetyna - announced on Friday that he wouldn't be running for re-election and recommended former Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak as his replacement. Fire service: 8 dead, 35 injured in fires during Christmas period

Firefighters intervened over 2.300 times over the Christamas period (24th, 25th and 26th of December) - the spokesman for the Polish State Fire Service (PSP) Senior Brigadier Paweł Frątczak informed on Friday. He added that in the said period there were 612 fires in which 8 people died and 35 got injured. One person died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Christmas on Polish roads: 20 dead, 233 injured

On Christmas Eve and the two following Christmas Days, 187 accidents took place on Polish roads, which took the lives of 20 people - according to the statistics announced by the General Police Headquarters. In total, 233 people got injured and 506 drunk drivers were detained.
