Long live independent and sovereign Poland! Poles celebrated 100 years of independence

On the 100th anniversary of regaining independence, in all of Poland at noon, the Dąbrowski's Mazurka - Poland's national anthem was sang. This is also how the celebrations on Warsaw's Piłsudski Square began. The President has officially inaugurated the reconstruction of the Saski Palace that was destroyed during the Second World War. "Under the white-and-red flag, there's room for every one of us, independent of their views because in everyone, I believe this strongly, there's love for their fatherland. May the free, independent and sovereign Poland live!" said President Andrzej Duda on Sunday.

Time capsule with wishes to Poland to be buried at Warsaw's Copernicus Science Centre

Warsaw's Copernicus Centre also decided to mark the centennial of Poland's independence. It carried out experiments in its laboratories, including those inspired by double Nobel Prize winning scientist Marie Skłodowska-Curie. There was also a time capsule inside which wishes for Poland were put. These wishes have been collected by TVN24 over the last year. The capsule is to be buried on the grounds of the Copernicus Centre and disinterred for the bicentennial of Poland's independence.

The legislation granting the free day, to allow people to recuperate after the Independence Day, was passed extremely late.

President Duda handed in nine promotions to the rank of general and signed changes to army command

President Duda has nominated officially promoted nine officers to the rank of general. The Commander in Chief also signed an act into law changing the administration and command of the Polish Army. This will mean that the Chief of the General Staff will once again be the highest military commander. Furthermore, the Territorial Defense Force will answer to the Minister of Defense until it becomes fully operational.

"History is unfolding in front of our very eyes," these were the words of warning expressed by Donald Tusk, the former Polish prime minister and the sitting President of the European Council. During the Freedom Games in Łódź, he spoke of Józef Piłsudski calling him a leader of Poland who defended his country from the Bolsheviks. Furthermore, he said that today's Bolsheviks should also be taken on and no one has any illusions about who he was referring to.

Polish Amputee Football team returned home after claiming 7th place in World Cup in Mexico

The Polish Amputee Football national team has returned to Poland from the World Cup in Mexico. In the last match, Poles beat Spain 1:0 and came in 7th place. Earlier, in the quarterfinal they fought a dramatic battle with England. They lost in a series of penalty shots, despite leading 3:1 just two minutes before the end of the match and being one foot in the semifinals. Their team motto for the World Cup in Mexico was actually "One foot in the finals".

Tragedy of legendary Polish cyclist Ryszard Szurkowski. He's paralysed after an accident

He was an iconic Polish cyclist in the sixties and seventies and he won the Olympic silver medal twice. Now, Ryszard Szurkowski needs help. In June, during a veteran race in Germany's Cologne he had an accident. He has now undergone two back operations and a complicated facial reconstruction, but all of his limbs are still paralysed. That's why his loved ones are raising money for a treatment and rehabilitation. The ministry of sport and tourism has joined the support.
