Prosecutor to hear banker Leszek Czarnecki on Monday in financial oversight scandal case

The first hearing on the scandal around the now former chairman of the financial supervision authority will be held on Monday in Katowice. Leszek Czarnecki who made the accusations will testify. His lawyer claims that they have another unreleased recording and the opposition has cast out on whether the prosecutor's office can remain objective in this case. They are also demanding an investigative commission be set up, while the ruling party says there's no need.

Sunday trade ban in Poland to tighten with the beginning of 2019

According to the laws that came into effect on 1st of March this year, trade on Sundays in only allowed on first and last weekend of the month, with some exceptions. In December, the trade ban will only apply to one Sunday, on the 9th day of the month. It will be possible to shopping on all the other ones. But with the beginning of 2019, the weekend shopping is going to be more difficult.

The scandal shook Poland on Tuesday night when the "Gazeta Wyborcza" daily published a recording online, on which the chairman of the KNF offered to protect Getin Noble Bank from going bankrupt, suggesting the bank to hire a specific lawyer for 40 million zlotys. He was recorded by the head of this very bank - Leszek Czarnecki.

An investigation is already underway but due to the unearthed scandal and because of what is going in parliament, the opposition is all but accusing the government of trying to make it easier for the state to takeover private banks in Poland.
