Record daily number of COVID-related deaths
Health Ministry informed on Wednesday about 32,874 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, as well as the record 653 COVID-related fatalities. Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 2,321,717 infections and 53,045 deaths.
Poland reported its highest number of coronavirus-related deaths so far this year on Wednesday, amid a third wave of the pandemic that is putting the country's health service under extreme strain.
The country reported 653 deaths on Wednesday, health ministry data showed. There were 32,874 new cases.
Last Friday (March 26) marked a new daily record number of cases reported by the countries authorities, at 35,143.
Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 2,321,717 coronavirus infections and 53,045 COVID-related deaths.
Poland will widen access to COVID-19 vaccines in April to those in their 40s and 50s, as it aims to inoculate all citizens who want to the jab by the end of August, the government said on Tuesday (March 30).
With a population of 38 million, the country wants to administer 10 million COVID vaccine doses per month, the government said.
Poland has reported a surge in new coronavirus cases in the past weeks, with many hospitals running out of beds and ventilators.
Along with its regional neighbours, Poland was spared the worst of the pandemic's first wave, but has faced a sharp spike in third wave cases.
