Protests and unrest after President Duda signed a controversial amendment to the judiciary laws. Some say it's the end of judicial independence in Poland. The government claims, however, the new rules are in line with democratic standards.

Politician of that party demand a clarification of the incident. Police claim that it was the demonstrators that used gas first, but witnesses claim otherwise and say that no gas was used by the protesters. According to members of the opposition, this could be the case of police overstepping its authority.

After President Duda's signed the latest amendment to judiciary laws, protests in the streets of Polish cities are organized on a regular basis. The new legislation is meant to expedite replacement of the First President of the Supreme Court. However, according to the Constitution, the current President is bound to serve until 2020.
