Crowds of people have taken to the beaches pf the Baltic Sea. They aren't seeking fun in the sun, but are scavanging for amber. The recent storm tossed tons of the beautiful, prehistoric sap onto beaches. Those scouring the sands say that such good conditions have not been seen for years.

The finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, the biggest fundraiser in Poland will take place on the 13th of January. But the Orchestra will play for the whole year. Last Friday, Jerzy and Lidia Owsiak, in the name of entire organisation, donated a specialist ambulance to the Children's University Hospital in Białystok.

Audit Office: two kilos of food preservatives in Poles' yearly menu

The Supreme Audit Office has released an alarming report. The average Polish person consumes 2 kilgrams of food preservatives, colouring of flavouring each year. While many E-numbered ingredients are natural, many others are not. Dietician Agnieszka Pocztarska spoke to TVN24 about the problem.

"Unacceptable provisions". Deputy minister takes blame for "violence bill"

Elżbieta Bojanowska, the Deputy Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy was the person responsible for the draft amendments to the laws on domestic violence. Due to the massive criticism, she just told her superior, minister Elżbieta Rafalska that she accepts responsibility. Ms Bojanowska has admitted that provisions in the bill were "unacceptable" and incompatible with her intentions.

Confusion as EU Commission takes Polish energy law under scrutiny

There's still a lot of confusion regarding the price of electricity in 2019, despite recent changes and assurances that the prices will not go up. Now, contracts will have to be renegotiated. This will be a real headache for local governments and other various organisations. To make things worse, the European Commission is requesting clarification as to whether the remedies the government is applying are in line with EU law.

American Jewish Committee concerned with Adam Andruszkiewicz nomination

Representatives of the ruling Law and Justice party are unofficially wondering why Adam Andruszkiewicz was appointed deputy minister of digital affairs. The opposition is pointing to his lack of qualifications to the role. But when speaking officially, representatives are saying that the new minister knows a lot about social media and they're hoping that he'll make Law and Justice more attractive for young voters. The American Jewish Committee has also waded on the appointment and issued a statement expressing their concern referring to the deputy minister's controversial past as the leader of a far-right, nationalist organisation.

Stranded tourists evacuated from a mountain shelter by helicopter

Tourists got stranded in a high-mountain shelter in the Tatra Mountains and had to be evacuated by helicopter. This happened at the Valley of Five Lakes but really the entire Tatra Mountain range got buried in snow. Experts are saying we have a winter like we haven't seen in years. While beautiful, it's also dangerous. A 4th-degree avalanche warning is still in effect.

The Warsaw Museum of Evolution has approximately 8 million artefacts in its storerooms, but they don't have enough space to display even a small fraction of them. That's why it's hard for Poles to take advantage of their scientific discoveries when they don't have enough room or funding.
