The National Electoral Commission has chosen voting cards format

A sheet of paper instead of a booklet. The National Electoral Commission selected a format of electoral cards for the October's local elections. The commission's chief claims it would be convenient both for voters and for vote counting. There may, however, be some exceptions to the rule.

"Poland may ignore the ruling by CJEU". Turmoil after deputy PM Gowin's words

Words by the Deputy Prime Minister have unleashed a political turmoil. Jarosław Gowin said in an interview earlier this week that Poland could ignore the ruling of the European Court of Justice, regarding changes in the Polish judicial system. The opposition argues that such comments undermine Poland's EU membership and prepares a vote of no confidence against Mr Gowin.

"Baby Shoes Remember" events all over Poland

A number of "Baby Shoes Remember" events took part throughout Poland on Sunday. Participants hung baby shoes on the fences of churches in remembrance of clerical child abuse victims. The campaign originated in Ireland and was organised in Poland for the first time. However, not everyone agreed with the campaign. In Szczecin, a priest approached the protesters and the media. A heated exchange took place, culminating in the priest taking away the microphone from TVN24's Alicja Rucińska.

Havoc and destruction after heavy storms in southern Poland

The recent storrmy weather has been wreaking havoc throughout the country. Torrential rains in Brynica, southern Poland have destroyed numerous buildings and farm houses, leaving many to reconstruct what they spent a life-striving for. Locals have only just begun summing up the losses.

Minister Ziobro's associate among candidates chosen for Supreme Court

The Minister of Justice to the rescue. When a candidate for the Supreme Court was opposed by a ruling party's MP, minister Ziobro was ready to help and clarified the opinions of his subordinate on some controversial matters. For the opposition, the minister's involvement in promoting his man into Poland's top court is a stark example of putting the judiciary under politicial control. The ruling party dismisses these accusations.

Poland's new coach picked his team for the game against Italy

Poland national team's coach Jerzy Brzęczek has called up 27 players for the UEFA Nations League game against Italy and a friendly against Ireland (7 and 11 September). Two players from this year's World Cup squad. Kamil Grosicki and Michał Pazdan have been left out. Mateusz Klich, Arkadiusz Reca, Adam Dźwigała, Rafał Pietrzak and Damian Szymański will get a chance to win their place in the team.

One-second distraction and a head-on collision. Luckily no one got injured

A dangerous accident caused most likely by a second of distraction. A 24-year-old was driving his car and when he turned his attention to his 11-month-old child, he smashed head-on with another car. Thankfully, no one was injured. The accident occured in Western Pomerania. The police released footage of the accident to warn drivers of the consequences of not paying attention to the road.

Mayoral race in Warsaw. Top candidates share their plans of metro development

Local mayoral elections in Warsaw. Civic Platform's Rafał Trzaskowski and Law and Justice's Patryk Jaki are the two main candidates to replace the outgoing incumbent Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. Both of them have been finding ways to make contact with voters. Jaki served up coffee in his own cafe so he could tell people about the new metro lines he'd like to build. Trzaskowski opted to travel to one of Warsaw's suburbs where he plans to extend an existing line.

Drunk driver damaged eight cars after a nighttime race in Wrocław

A nighttime car race took place on the streets of Wrocław. A man rammed into 8 vehicles that were parked near Pereca street. Some of cars were totalled while others have missing tires and mirrors. The driver of the BMW was drunk. He would not only have to deal with the law but also pay for he destroyed.

Women and alcoholism. A hard-hitting campaign to raise awareness

"You're useless, you're weak, I'll take everything from you" - these strong words come from a hard-hitting campaign called '10 reasons'. Its aim is to shed light on a problem of alcoholism among women. It's estimared that up 600.000 women in Poland alone may suffer from this illness. Anna Dereszowska and Jacek Braciak have taken part in the campaign. The film they made is shocking. Its authors want to use to show just how awfully alcohol treats women.
