It was a tall, muscular man on a bike. He was approximately 180 centimetres high and about 45-50 years old. The victim didn't know him. When she approached him, he splashed her with corrosive liquid - that's how much the investigators know about the perpetrator of the attack on a 45-year-old woman from Gdańsk. The woman sustained numerous burns. The search after the attacker is on.
The attack took place on Matuszewskiego street at the Gdańsk neighbourhood of Morena on Sunday afternoon. The 45-year-old was walking down a path when someone rode towards her on a bike, splashed her with corrosive liquid and fled.
The prosecutor's office in Gdańsk has launched an inquiry into causing damage to a person's health. The perpetrator may face between 3 and even 15 years in prison.
So far, no arrest shave been made in connection to the case. The prosecutor already spoke with the victim. She told everything she'd remembered.
"From the first statement of the victim it appears that she was attacked by a male between 45 and 50 years of age. He was approximately 180 centimetres high and had muscular silhouette. The victim didn't know the attacker," said Grażyna Wawryniuk from the District Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.
"Help, he splashed me with acid"
TVN24 reporter managed to talk to the man who had helped the attacked woman.
"This lady started to scream: 'help, somebody help me, he splashed me with acid'. She was in deep shock. She tried to wipe her face and waved her hands," said the witness who insisted on remaining anonymous.
The man advised the woman to come down the stairs to the nearby parking lot.
"I said to her: 'miss, let's quickly come down to that booth downstairs. There you can neutralise this with water'. She already had troubles seeing but she managed to run down the stairs. Her face was severely burned," said the witness.
Search for witnesses
The attacked woman was takento a hospital. As TVN24 reporter determined, the woman is in a serious condition but with no threat to her life.
The police are asking for contact from anyone who had seen a suspiciously acting person in the area, or someone running away, as well as from possible witnesses of the attack.
"The criminal division already secured preliminary findings and are verifying all gathered information. However, any witnesses of this crime or people having any information on the attacker are asked to report it to the Gdańsk police," said Karina Kamińska, spokesperson of the police in Gdańsk.
