Green groups: activists denied access to Poland for U.N. climate talks

Poland's deputy environment minister, Michal Kurtyka, said on Saturday he was in contact with the authorities over reports from campaign groups that at least 12 to 14 activists were refused entry to the country or deported while on their way to a U.N. climate change conference in Katowice.

Nearly 50 tonnes of demolition rubble seized at Polish-German border

The Customs and Tax Officers from Szczecin have prevented some 47 tonnes of waste materials to be illegally imported to Poland from Germany, the National revenue Administration informed. Two shipments from Poland's Western neighbouring country were full of demolition rubble, including construction waste, broken tiles, reenforced concrete and plastic foil. The cargo lacked proper documentation and import license.

Polish coal production expands despite environmental warnings

The European Union's largest coking coal producer, Poland's JSW could increase output by between 2.5 and 3 million tonnes per year by acquiring assets, far exceeding its current plan to grow production to 18 million tonnes by 2030 from roughly 15 million now.

One person died, 19 injured in bus accident in Lower Silesia

A bus carrying 51 passengers has crashed on the S3 highway near Sucha Górna in Lower Silesia. According to the fire department, 1 person died and 19 got injured. Rescue services from the region are arriving at the scene. "The bus was carrying disabled people," said Piotr Woźniakiewicz from the State Fire Service. As Krzysztof Zaporowski from Lower Silesian police said on Thursday evening, the accident occured at about 9 p.m. "The bus skidded during braking, fell out of the road and landed in a ditch. "There are 5 people with severe injuries and 37 are being taken care of by paramedics," he added. The bus passengers were returning from the Wrocław Christmas market to the town of Pszczew. The vehicle fell on the side just before the roundabout on S3 highway.

Court orders Lech Wałęsa to apologise to Jarosław Kaczyński for adverse comments

Former President of Poland must apologise to Jarosław Kaczyński, the District Court in Gdańsk ruled on Thursday. Law and Justice chairman has sued Wałęsa for a violation of personal rights. The case pertains, among other things, the comment made by the former president, blaming Kaczyński for the Smoleńsk catastrophy. The ruling is not yet legally binding.

Ukrainian President: Kerch Strait incident was a brutal violation of international law

"First of all, it’s extremely dangerous and not only for Ukraine, but definitely for the regional security, European security and maybe global security", said the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko in an exclusive interview for TVN24 BIS reporter Michał Sznajder. Mr Poroshenko was asked for a comment on the recent incident at the Kerch Strait, where the Russian Navy seized Ukrainian ships and detained Ukrainian sailors. "It was a brutal violation of the international law, brutal violation of our sovereignty and, de facto, it is an occupation of the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov," said Petro Poroshenko.

I am open for talks, also with the Modern Party leader Katarzyna Lubnauer; I will keep on encouraging the Modern Party not to quit the Civic Coalition, but rather to enforce it by joining Civic Platform-Civic Coalition parliamentary club, declared Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, a Modern Party MP. On Wednesday, the Civic Platform parliamentary club changed its name to Civic Platform-Civic Coalition and was joined by 8 new members, of which seven are former Modern Party MPs. Among them is the former head of the party’s parliamentary club, Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, as well as Piotr Misiło who was thrown out of the party last week. As a result, the Modern Party parliamentary club ceased to exist and became a parliamentary group. MP Gasiuk-Pihowicz became the head of the Civic Platform-Civic Coalition parliamentary club.
