The 34th edition of the Warsaw Film Festival has officially begun. 190 movies from over 60 countries will be presented and each day there will be meetings with some of the makers behind them. There will also be workshops for young movie makers. The festival ends on the 21st of October.

The Polish actress Joanna Kulig is on the cover of French edition of "Elle" magazine. "Our newest crush of the fall" the French wrote about the artist who is becoming an international sensation for her role in the movie "Cold War". The admiration will only grow as the movie will be shown in French cinemas in less than two weeks. In the United States, some are already predicting Oscar nominations.

A third person has been apprehended in connection to the kidnapping of two girls which took place near Warsaw. Earlier their father and his friend were apprehended. First the father caused an accident by driving into a car with his children and their mother inside. Later, he took the daughters and drove off.

One man was found standing in th window, another one was found in a tree. That's what the police discovered in the western city of Gorzów Wielkopolski. They were called in as locals were worried about someone trying to commit a suicide by jumping out of a window. As it turned out, both men were drunk and wanted by the police.

A horrible story from the southern city of Tychy. A married couple lured women into their home by offering them a job of nanny for their 2-year-old son. Then, they kept the women captive, beat them and raped them. One of the victims is 14-years-old. The couple has already been charged.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has called on the Russian Federation to return the Tu-154 government aircraft wreckage to Polish authorities without further delay, which it withholds in breach of international law. The handover should take place after consultation with Polish experts and in a manner which will prevent any further deterioration of evidence.

The Polish government is vetoing the EU Fundamental Human Rights Statement. The reason is that it includes provisions pertaining to the difficulties that sexual minorities face in their everyday lives and not enough about the fate of Christians and Jews. The LGBT March for Equality in Lublin will take place after all. Initially the local mayor did not allow the event to be held due to security concerns. However, the local court has now decided the freedom to assembly is one of the crucial elements of a democratic society and that it is the role of the police to provide security at and around the event. The mayor says he will respect the verdict, but many conservative politicians, even in the Polish national government, are unhappy of the "blatant affirmation of homosexuality".

A former police officer and deputy director of a security company stole 8 million zlotys from his own firm's convoy, in cooperation with the driver and guard.
