Deputy Minister of Sports Łukasz Mejza announced on December 10 that he had asked for a leave of absence as member of parliament. A positive decision was granted by Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Małgorzata Gosiewska, but Mejza's vacation officialy started on Monday (December 20). Despite his urgent need for vacation, the deputy minister was present at Friday's voting session in the lower house, and took part in voting over the 2022 budget and the so-called lex TVN.
Wirtualna Polska journalists Szymon Jadczak and Mateusz Ratajczak published a story on current Deputy Minister of Sport Łukasz Mejza. In the article they revealed that Mejza's company Vinci NeoClinic offered to treat people suffering from incurable diseases, however the method hailed by the minister has not been medically approved. Treatment prices started from 80,000 dollars.
Wirtualna Polska also published an article in which journalists recorded accounts of people who were being persuaded by Vinci NeoClinic to try the unapproved therapy. Mejza argued that WP's publication was "a bunch of blatant lies" and announced he would take matter to court.
Many politicians, not only from the opposition, call on the government to dismiss Mejza. Prime Minister Morawiecki has said that "the situation will certainly be examined in great detail".
"As you all well know, in recent days we have been dealing with the biggest political attack after '89. An attack on the United Right, and on the governing majority. A relentless and unprecendented attack," Mejza said at a press briefing last week.
On December 10, Mejza announced that he "suspended" his political activity. He added he had filed for an unpaid leave of absence at the ministry (until December 31), and had asked the speaker of the Sejm for vacation from parliamentary duties.
However, according to TVN24 reporter Radomir Wit, Mejza's vacation officially began on Monday (Dec. 20). The approval was granted by Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Małgorzata Gosiewska (PiS). Asked by TVN24 reported why the leave has been granted only today and not last week, she replied: "that's the decision".
Asked if the idea was to have Mejza take part in Friday's voting in the Sejm, she said she had received the request with a delay. "An MP's basic duty to take part in Sejm sessions, hence the decision has been granted only today," she added.
Mejza showed up at Friday's voting session in the lower house. He took part in voting over the 2022 budget and the media reform bill known as lex TVN.
