Poland's Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said on Monday the country saw a developing trend in COVID infections, while countries of Western Europe had the peak of the fourth wave already behind them. According to the minister, Poland could reach a level of 1,000 daily infections by the end of September. "We've also assumed that there would be approx. 5,000 daily cases by the end of October," Niedzielski added.
Poland's Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at a conference on Monday in Kielce the government wasn't planning introducing any new coronavirus restrictions at the time.
"At the moment, at such infection rate, we're not planning changes in restrictions. For October we have prepared a draft ordinance of the Council of Ministers, assuming extending of the restrictions we had during summer vacations and in September," he explained.
He added that "according to the forecast we have, I still hold up that by the end of September - and September is practically over by the way - we will have an average of 1,000 daily infection cases".
"We're still in a situation in which we don't have to take any drastic measures. And according to the same forecast assuming 1,000 by the end of September, we've also assumed that there would be approx. 5,000 daily cases by the end of October," the minister said.
He stressed that potential decisions would be made based on the infection curve trajectory.
"But I'd like to emphasise that we've got regions clearly below the average epidemiological situation, where the level of vaccination is relatively lower," he said, adding that one example was the eastern province of Lubelskie.
At the same the minister said the situation was serious, in a sense that a developing trend was observed. "Looking at the neighbouring countries, we shouldn't be expecting a decrease, but rather a continuation of the increasing trend," he added. "What is most positive (...), is that we actually see that vaccinations work," minister Niedzielski stressed.
