During the 2023 Grand Finale, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity raised 243,259,387,25 zlotys - the chairman of the GOCC Foundation Jurek Owsiak announced on Friday (March 31). This is yet another record amount of money gathered in the 31 years of the charity. The 31st Grand Finale's main goal was embraced in the following motto: "We want to beat sepsis! We play for all – the little and the big ones!".
The 31st Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christman Charity (GOCC) was held on January 29 under the theme "Stay healthy in a healthy world". The goal of this year's fundraiser was fight against sepsis. For the first time in its history, the GOCC played for "the little and the big ones" - that is for patients of all age groups.
This year, the charity managed to collect an astonishing sum of 243,259,387,25 zlotys - which has become the new record. It is nearly 20 million zlotys more than last year, which had also broken the record at the time. In 2022, the GOCC raised 224,376,706,35 zlotys, which means the 31st Grand Finale ended with an amount higher by 18,882,680,09 zlotys.
On January 30, Jurek Owsiak summed up the 31st Grand Finale, saying it had been an "amazing and wonderful" event on a "very peaceful day". "We didn't report any incidents that would (negatively - edit.) affect the way people were having fun and the fundraiser itself," he said. The declared raised sum right after the Finale stood at 154,606,764 zlotys.
The declared amount is the sum of all the estimated amounts of the headquarters, the value of electronic collections collected until the end of the Finale, and all donations made by GOCC partners.
The following day, Owsiak told TVN24 that "if this 154 million zlotys was the final amount, we would already beat sepsis". He added that the main goal was to purchase "equipment for quick diagnostics, including very quick kits for paramedics, nurses, in order to detect sepsis cases in the first place". Owsiak also stressed the importance of determining "the type of sepsis and the right treatment, as our recovery depends only on time".
Since the it's inception in 1993, the GOCC has collected over 1.75 billion zlotys to support Polish health care and purchased over 70,000 pieces of medical equipment.
