Eight people have been admitted to the hospital in Wałcz, in the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship. They are believed to have been poisoned by designer drugs and two of them are in serious condition. Some of the affected were brought by ambulance, while some of them came to the hospital themselves. The local police and prosuector are looking into the case.
"Eight patients were brought to our hospital suspected of having been poisoned by designer drugs," said Doctor Rafał Gendek from Military Hospital in Wałcz.
"The symptoms ranged from complete unconsciousness to poor reactions to pain and to extreme psychomotor excitement of the patients. Two of them are in serious condition, the other six are in moderately serious condition. They are aged 16 to 37 and it is one woman and seven men," said Dr Gendek.
"We are in constant contact with the District Police Headquarters in Wałcz and the police have visited our hospital several times," he added.
In total, eight people were admitted to the hospital and one was released soon after.
According to the police, most of the poisoned people came to the hospital themselves and complained about feeling unwell.
"Three people who most likely got poisoned with designer drugs were taken to intensive care and four others are in another ward of the Wałcz hospital," said Beata Budzyń from Wałcz police.
The police have detained one person connected to the case. However, officers did not reveal exactly the involvement of the detained.
Wałcz police have confiscated suspicious substances and ordered precise laboratory analysis, as initial check didn't undoubtedly confirm that the substances were illegal.
