“Donald Trump's visit is extremely important for our country and the speech he will deliver in Warsaw is being awaited by many politicians around the world with rapt attention,” said Andrzej Duda. As he announced, the talks with the American President will concern “specific issues,” including security.
“President Trump's visit is indeed very important for our country. I would even say that if one looks at the context of this whole situation, it cannot be ruled out that it will be of historic significance,” said the President.
He added that President Trump's speech “is awaited by many politicians and journalists around the world with rapt attention.” “When the President of the United States makes a speech in Warsaw, he is addressing not only Poland, but the entire world,” said Andrzej Duda.
“The very fact of this visit gives me enormous satisfaction and I am glad it will happen,” he added.
“We are the leader in this part of Europe, and Trump sees this.”
Andrzej Duda pointed out that Donald Trump's upcoming visit to Poland will be the second important foreign visit of the President of the United States since he took office. “This is not accidental. It is the result of a whole series of political actions, which I have taken over the two years I have been President of the Republic of Poland. And, frankly speaking, this gives me enormous satisfaction, since it is not a simple matter of inviting the President of the United States,” he stressed.
“Everybody is inviting the President of the United States. Everybody wants President Trump to visit their country, because the U.S. is the world's greatest power, the largest economy, the greatest army in the world, the guardian of global security. This is simply a great power and everybody would like this to happen,” said the President.
“We are an important state in this part of the world, one of the largest European states, a leader in Central Europe, and this is why President Trump is coming to us, because he is aware of this and understands it,” stressed Andrzej Duda.
“Symbolic significance” of the site of the speech
Referring to Trump's Thursday speech in the Krasinski Square, the President highlighted the symbolic character of the site. “The U.S. Embassy has organized the event and therefore one can say that the United States chose the site. It has symbolic significance because of the Warsaw Uprising Monument. President Trump will deliver his speech by this monument,” he said. “Judging by what we have heard from the White House, [President Trump] will say positive things about Poland, will say very positive things about our history, and I am very happy about this, because it means that the authorities of the United States, a global power, know our history, and it means that certain conclusions can be drawn as to what one may expect regarding security issues,” claimed President Duda.
Talks that touch on “very specific issues”
“I will speak with President Trump about this. As for our future membership in the G20, I believe this is something we should try to achieve. We are constantly expanding our economic potential and I think it can be achieved,” said the President.
As he pointed out, he will have very specific topics to talk about with President Trump. “This will not be just a general discussion on global security. We will be talking about very specific issues,” he stressed.
“Energy security is one of these topics, which includes the prospects for a contract with a U.S. entity, an LNG supplier. The first delivery has already been made as a kind of test. Our LNG terminal took the delivery, so it is feasible, and at the moment things are being done to ensure that a long-term contract is concluded,” said Andrzej Duda.
“The presence of United States troops”
“Another issue is the anti-missile shield and the investment in Redzikowo,” he added.
“And also the presence of United States troops. U.S. soldiers are already in Poland, but we will talk with President Trump about plans for the future in this regard,” announced the President.
The talks will also cover broadly understood economic relations. Referring to the “Three Seas” summit, the President stressed that it included “twelve countries in Central Europe, which are also members of the European Union, and want to cooperate with one another through infrastructure development, and thus strengthen security, including energy security.”
“It is therefore clear that the President of the United States, who has such a life experience – a lifelong businessman – sees potential benefits for the United States from participating in this meeting. Investment in Central Europe is indeed about huge sums of money, for development of infrastructure, for the construction of roads, railways, power grids, gas pipelines,” stressed Andrzej Duda.
