Polish President's aide Krzysztof Szczerski told PAP on Tuesday that Poland "has supported Germany's motion to join the Three Seas Initiative as a partner country."
"If the motion is accepted by other Three Seas countries, Germany can attend a September summit of the Initiative," Szczerski added.
The Three Seas Initiative is a joint Polish-Croatian initiative promoting cooperation in the area of infrastructure between countries situated in the Baltic, Black Sea and Adriatic Sea regions. It has already been joined by Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.
The second Three Seas summit was held in Warsaw in July 2017. The next one will take place in the second half of September in Bucharest.
Szczerski said that "Poland has supported Germany's motion to join the Three Seas Initiative as a partner country," and added that "it is possible that Germany will attend the Initiative's next summit in September, together with representatives of the US and the EC President."
The official expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the Three Seas Initiative "is being positively perceived by foreign partners."
"This testifies to its growing importance in European and Euro-Atlantic politics," he went on to say.
"President Andrzej Duda has consistently voiced his conviction that the Three Seas should be an important mechanism of cooperation for the benefit of harmonious development and security of the whole of Europe. If another important country supports this initiative, this means that it is pertinent and has a chance to consolidate its role in the international politics," he stressed.
