Inflation in Poland in July 2022 was at 14.2% year on year, according to the latest report by Eurostat. This is one of the highest increases in consumer prices in the European Union. The highest inflation was recorded in Estonia and Latvia, whereas the lowest in France and Malta.
According to the latest EU inflation report published by Eurostat, the euro area annual inflation rate was 8.9% in July 2022, up from 8.6% in June. A year earlier, the rate was 2.2%.
"European Union annual inflation was 9.8% in July 2022, up from 9.6% in June. A year earlier, the rate was 2.5%" - said Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
"The lowest annual rates were registered in France, Malta (both 6.8%) and Finland (8.0%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Estonia (23.2%), Latvia (21.3%) and Lithuania (20.9%). Compared with June, annual inflation fell in six Member States, remained stable in three and rose in eighteen" we read in the report.
"In July, the highest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate came from energy (+4.02 percentage points, pp), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (+2.08 pp), services (+1.60 pp) and non-energy industrial goods (+1.16 pp)" - Eurostat added.
Poland on top of the list
Poland is among the countries with the highest increase in consumer prices. Inflation in July 2022 was 14.2% year on year - the same level as in June 2022. Apart from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, three other EU countries recorded higher inflation than Poland in July: Czech Republic (17.3%), Bulgaria (14.9%) and Hungary (14.7%).
According to Poland's official statistics agency (Statistics Poland), the country's consumer prices in July increased by 15.6% year on year. This was the highest level since March 1997, which is more than a quarter of a century.
