Warsaw Uprising heroine Wanda Traczyk-Stawska recalled on Monday that the allies had failed the insurgents in 1944. "Therefore I plead, because there's war in Ukraine: as soon as possible, bring them help in the form of state-of-the-art weapons," she called upon the free world.
Warsaw Uprising heroine Wanda Traczyk-Stawska gave a speech on the 78th anniversary of the rising. She took part in commemorations held at the Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery, in front of the Monument to the Fallen Unconquerable.
In her address, she Traczyk-Stawska reminded that the insurgents "rushed to fight, although they knew they had little chances". "Because they failed us. Allies failed us. They could have brought us help, they could have given us airports, could have given us weapons and ammunition. We had to take it from our enemy with our bare hands, so we were dying," she said.
"Therefore I plead, because there's war in Ukraine: as soon as possible, bring them help in (the form of - edit.) state-of-the-art weapons. I calling upon the whole world. I say this as a soldier, who knows what it means to wield a weapon," she appealed.
"All of you stand up and help Ukraine! All of you! I'd really like to thank whole Warsaw, whole Poland, for sheltering all those people, women with little children. Thank you," she added.
"Do not instil hatred against anyone into the souls of these children!"
Wanda Traczyk-Stawska also stressed that the insurgents "were not born any different from other generations". "The same boys and girls are born today like back then. But we were raised this way. As there were schools that no (political - edit.) party could enter. No young person knows which side they will be on until they have grown up. Only then they have the right to make a choice. And not when they are little children. Do not instil hatred against anyone into the souls of these children! And especially not into those who kneel - the Germans," the Warsaw insurgent said.
"Remind yourselves when there was Martial Law (in Poland in 1981-1983 - edit.). At the time I served along with Father Popiełuszko, we would bring help to the weakest. I remember where the first and the best parcels were coming from. They would come, and come, and come. From the Germans," she recalled.
