U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski gave a lecture on Monday at the University of Warsaw on global leadership in the context of the war in Ukraine.
"On behalf of president Biden, thank you Poland for all you're doing to address this crisis in Ukraine. Thank you Polish young people for organising on social media to drive to the border to pick up a family and to take care of them. You are our heroes," the ambassador said.
He also mentioned the annual Time magazine's Person of the Year award.
"This year my hope is that the Person of the Year is a split screen: half is of the Ukrainian fighter and the fighter-in-chief president Zelenskiy, and the other half is the Polish young person organising on social (media), going to the border to help someone, but also introducing to the world a whole new national example of how to greet and take care of refugees, " Brzezinski said.
"Thanks to you, Poland is seen as a humanitarian superpower. I am proud to be a U.S. Ambassador to a humanitarian superpower," he added.
Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland Andrii Deshchytsia also took the floor and thanked for "political support, humanitarian aid and admiration for the Ukrainian people", as well as for sending his country arms, which "will finally define who is winning".
