Polish striker Robert Lewandowski received his second consecutive European Golden Shoe in Barcelona on Wednesday (November 9). Barca striker won the trophy after scoring 35 goals in the German Bundesliga last season for his previous club Bayern Munich.
The Barcelona player added the award to the Gerd Mueller Trophy he was given at the recent 2022 Ballon d'Or gala.
"Thank you very much, I’m very proud, I’m very happy, because I know how hard I had to work for this. Also, I want to say thank you for my ex-team mates, also to my former team and FC Barcelona," he said after accepting the award.
"Now we are at the good way. Even when we show what happened at the last, yesterday, we want this kind of game or even the game in Valencia it means, it’s like a big step, to be not only to the first place, even thinking about winning LaLiga," he added.
Asked about his predictions on the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, Lewandowski said: "It's so difficult to say, but you have for sure a few favorites to win the World Cup, even in our group or others, like Argentina, probably they're going to be one of the favorites".
"But you know, you have Brazil, you have the teams from Europe as well. It’s so difficult because, it’s different, it’s not after the season, the players are sometimes tired," the striker added.
This European Golden Shoe is given out by European Sports Media (ESM) to the continent's top scorer during the previous season.
