"On Friday I will submit in the Senate a draft resolution on holding a nationwide referendum on 10-11 November, regarding changes to the Constitution," President Andrzej Duda announced today.
On 3 May 2017, President Andrzej Duda proposed that in 2018, to mark the centennial of Poland's regaining of independence, a constitutional referendum should be held. It would determine the kind of changes the Poles would like to make in the Constitution. The president wants the referendum to be held on November 11 or to last two days (10-11 November).
"Taking into account the calendar of official events, I would like to ask the Senate to approve the resolution as soon as possible, so that the National Electorate Commission has as much time as possible to prepare the referendum," said the President.
"I have decided to submit the resolution in the Senate today. I hope, that in the coming days, the upper house will begin proceedings regarding the referendum and after a thorough discussion will approve of it in a vote," added Andrzej Duda.
He also stressed that it is his wish for the referendum to last two days and be held on 10-11 November.
