“President Donald Trump had already spoken very warmly about Poles living in the United States during his election campaign,” Deputy Speaker of the Senate Adam Bielan said on the TVN24 program "Jeden na jeden". “It wasn’t the case that we had to specially talk him into coming to Poland,” he added.
Bielan said that he was one of the persons who persuaded the new administration of President Trump that it’s worth coming to Poland. “It was not a difficult process,” he said.
“President Trump had already spoken very warmly about Poles living in the United States during his election campaign, so It wasn’t the case that we had to specially talk him into coming to Poland,” Bielan said.
Trump - Kaczyński meeting? “It was never planned”
When asked whether Donald Trump will meet with Law and Justice party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, the Deputy Speaker of the Senate responded, “No, such a meeting was never planned.”
“Neither one side nor the other ever proposed to hold such a meeting,” he explained.
Bielan added that the party chairman has never sought such a meeting. “We are aware that President Trump’s time will be limited,” he said. “He will come to Poland today, but very late in the evening. He won’t have any political meetings tonight. He is beginning tomorrow. First, of course, he will meet one on one with President Duda. Later, the American and Polish delegations will meet. We have a number of issues that need to be discussed,” he said.
Next, President Trump will deliver a speech at the forum of the Three Seas Initiative. “And finally, at 1:00 p.m., he will deliver his first public speech in Europe,” Bielan said.
“A message for the whole world”
According to the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Donald Trump’s speech on Krasiński Square “will be a message for the whole world... The White House is clearly announcing that this will be its leading speech on foreign policy since President Trump was sworn in,” Bielan said.
“It will be a speech the whole world will most definitely listen to, and I am proud that it will be delivered right here in Warsaw,” he stressed.
“Millions of Americans will follow the speech live”
“I am very happy that the organizers of this visit have chosen such a symbolic venue, as President Trump will speak against the backdrop of the Warsaw Uprising Monument,” Bielan said.
“This is a very important aspect concerning our historical policy... President Trump will be speaking during prime time on the East Coast and the central parts of the United States. Millions of Americans will follow the whole speech live,” said the Deputy Minister of the Senate.
In his opinion, if Donald Trump mentions the Warsaw Uprising at the beginning or during the speech, “our historical policy will greatly benefit”.
“He is coming at a moment in which our relations are the best in history”
Bielan outlined three pillars in the context of President Trump’s visit and cooperation with the Americans in the coming months. “This is a matter of so-called hard security – that is, our military cooperation, but also cooperation between our arms industries,” he said.
He also mentioned the issues of energy security and economic relations. “Our trade is at its highest point ever. In general, President Trump is coming at a moment in which Polish-American relations are the best in history,” he said.
