"There are two types of Donald Trump’s speeches. First of all, we have the rally speeches, like the one he gave during his inauguration. We also had the brilliant address to the Congress on the State of the Union, which the entire Congress applauded," said Sławomir Dębski, director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), in Wstajesz i wiesz morning program. "Let’s hope that the speech in Poland will resemble the Congress one," he added.
The potential topics of Donald Trump’s speech to be given at the Krasiński Square in Warsaw were discussed in TVN24 by Michał Kobosko, head of the Atlantic Council’s Warsaw office, and Sławomir Dębski, director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM). "We have to underline that this is Donald Trump’s second visit to Europe," stressed Dębski. "Donald Trump’s speech is bound to follow the long tradition of American politics, which has been in place for 25 years: the tradition of delivering important platform speeches from Warsaw, speeches whose topics include bridging the divides," stated the PISM Director.
"Donald Trump is a continuator of Barack Obama’s tenure"
"Though he may not be happy about it, Donald Trump is a continuator of Barack Obama’s tenure," added Michał Kobosko.
"Obama visited Warsaw last July to attend a NATO summit, and those hugely important decisions made then have largely been implemented, such as the deployment of U.S. troops, the presence of NATO battalions on the so-called eastern flank, and security in the context of the situation in Ukraine," he enumerated. "These themes will definitely be at the forefront, and this is what we’re hoping and waiting for in Warsaw," underlined the head of the Atlantic Council’s Warsaw office. "I think that the theme of security, most often understood as military security, will be elaborated on and broadened here. Plus there is the fact that Donald Trump’s visit to Warsaw coincides with the Three Seas Initiative Summit, which is a strictly economic initiative. Energy security and infrastructural investment will definitely be important here," added Kobosko.
Two types of Donald Trump’s speeches
"We need to underline that this will be one of Donald Trump’s first speeches on foreign policy," noticed the PISM Director.
"Such platform speeches have been few and far between. The G20 basically provides no such opportunity. Here, though, we’ll be dealing with a thought-out policy communication," he stressed. Fulfilling NATO’s expectations
"We are among the few NATO countries that have met the expectation of spending at least 2% of GDP on defense," noticed Kobosko. "We know that we have to do what we can to think about our security. Other NATO members, such as Germany, have not met this target, and Donald Trump is bound to talk about that," stressed the head of the Atlantic Council’s Warsaw office.
