Low level of water in Vistula uncovered the bottom of the river along the shores of Warsaw. Sadly, not only mud and stones have been found in the riverbed, but also a city bike, electric scooters, beach chairs, metal trash bins and an electric switchboard - tvnwarszawa.pl reporter Artur Węgrzynowicz said.
On Monday (August 22), tvnwarszawa.pl reporter Artur Węgrzynowicz spotted a city bike and a few electric scooter standing at Vistula Boulevards. "You can see they spent plenty of time in the water. They are heavily corroded and damaged. There's at least a few-metre difference between the boulevards and the water mirror. They couldn't have been hauled out by a random person," the reporter said.
The "mystery" was explained by Jan Piotrowski, city hall official responsible for Vistula issues. He told tvnwarszawa.pl that the items had been hauled out as part of Vistula cleaning action, he had personally taken part in. In his view, it was not an easy task, but the action was supported by a boat team.
"No one can sail over there now, the water's very low and you can see stones. We've hauled out four scooters ourselves. Additionally, we organise cleaning actions. Next one is on August 27, the last time we cleaned was in July," Piotrowski said.
He added that the city had been organising such actions together with local residents for years, and said they fish out various items whenever water level is low. "We try to this on a regular basis."
According to Piotrowski, some of the recently hauled out scooters were thrown into the river not so long ago. "You clearly see they were thrown in there within the last few days. I brought them to the shore and placed them in a safe spot," he said.
He added that this has been a notorious problem in recent years and that plenty of bikes and scooters are found in Vistula.
What other "treasures" can be found in the river? "We've also found a heavy carpet, heaviy soaked with water, 11 tyres, a MacBook which someone had tried to destroy and evidently get rid of, as well as plenty of mobile phones," Piotrowski listed.
