Activist Katarzyna A., better known as Babcia Kasia (Grandma Kasia), has been sentenced to six months of community work, after being found guilty of violating bodily integrity of three police officers. Gradma Kasia's attorney has appealed against the sentence issued in the absence of parties, which means the plaintiff and the defendant will face each other in court.
According to the court sentence, seen by the Polish Press Agency, judge Urszula Gołębiewska-Budnik has found Grandma Kasia guilty of violating bodily integrity of police officer on March 26, 2021, in Warsaw, "by pushing them back with both hands and rattling their protective gear".
Katarzyna A. was also said to have kicked, stomp at and tussle with the officers once taken to a van. She hit one of them with a fist, and pushed back another. The tussle continued also inside the van when Grandma Kasia was being transported to a police station at Wilcza street in Warsaw.
Judge Gołębiewska-Budnik has also found the woman guilty of insulting the officers.
As a result of being found guilty, Katarzyna A. has been sentenced to six months of unpaid community work. The defendant is to do community work for 20 hours a week and additionally pay a court fee of 220 zlotys.
Grandma Kasia's attorney has filed an appeal against the sentence, which was issued by Warszawa-Śródmieście Regional Court on September 27, in the absence of parties.
It means that the case will be heard once again, but this time in the usual way, that is in the presence of Grandma Kasia, the prosecution, and the police officers the activist is said to have attacked.
