A group of EU commissioners responsible for recovery funds negotiations with Poland have expressed a positive opinion regarding a plan of changes in Poland's judicial system proposed by the Polish government - TVN24 correspondent in Brussels Maciej Sokołowski reported on Tuesday (December 13). If Warsaw implements said changes in the form they were discussed on Tuesday, the European Commission will be ready to greenlight cash payout for Poland.
The proposed changes to the legislative changes aimed at adjusting Poland's justice system disciplinary rules to the so-called milestones agreed with the EU were presented on Tuesday in Strasbourg by Poland's Minister for the European Union, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk.
"Today the commissioners gave the green light to the implementation of such reforms, announcing that if they become effective, it will be possible to pay out the recovery fund money," TVN24 correspondent in Brussels Maciej Sokołowski reported.
He added that the next step for the Law and Justice government would be to pass their project through the parliament and implement changes to the law. "We still haven't seen any details on what the new bill actually contains," Sokołowski stressed.
TVN24 correspondent also underscored that the agreement over this issue ended the stage of talks between Brussels and Warsaw. "We're now entering another stage, on the Polish side," he added.
If the bill is passed by the Polish parliament, the European Commission will assess it once it has become law, and if the included provisions match the agreed terms, then it will be possible to request payment from the recovery fund," Sokołowski explained.
