The prosecutor's office is investigating the death of Law and Justice's (PiS) councillor from Zgierz, Tomasz Jędrzejczak. His body was hauled out of the Vistula river in Warsaw on Saturday.

The body of the councillor was found on Saturday morning under the Łazienkowski Bridge in Warsaw. It was spotted by a man kayaking on the Vistula, he informed the authorities.

According to RMF FM private radio, on Friday the councillor and his wife went to a concert at Torwar Arena in Warsaw. Unofficial reports suggest that after the event the couple left the arena, and the man is said to have crossed Czerniakowska street to find a place to relieve himself, while his wife, said RMF FM, went home. The next day the woman reported her husband missing. Shortly after his body was found.

"The Regional Prosecutor's Office Warsaw-Śródmieście is investigating the case. The incident has been recorded by the CCTV. The footage has been analysed and the initial conclusions exclude involvement of any third parties," said the spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, Łukasz Łapczyński.

According to our unofficial information, everything seems to suggest that it was a tragic accident.

Łapczyński said that an autopsy will help to determine the cause of death. Naturally, in the course of this investigation we will be determining all circumstances surrounding this incdident," the spokesman added.

"Helpful, hard-working man"

Tomasz Jędrzejczak was an experienced local politician. He was in the middle of his fourth term in the Council of Zgierz County. Between 2006 and 2010, he was a member of the Board of Zgierz County. In the current term, he was at the helm of the Statutory-Legal Commission. He was originally from Głowno. He died at 52 years of age. "Tomasz Jędrzejczak was building PiS structures in Zgierz County. He was a very helpful, hard-working man, very friendly, and always smiling. For one term, he was a deputy of the starosta (county head), and a long-term Zgierz County councillor. My very close friend, he will be missed, such early death came unexpected for all of us," said PiS MP Marek Matuszewski.
